Can We?

If all we have is time can
We spend it together?
Forever
If all we have is love
Can we offer it endlessly to one another?
Faithfully?

If all we have now is all they'll ever be
Can we create our own world in the midst of this storm?
Can we be the house built on stone?
Or are we on shaky ground?

If we long for each other the way our lungs long for air
Can we start over when we miss the mark?
Can we forgive one another for the darkest evils
Or will we let love die alone in our sin?

If our hearts beat in time
Can we love beyond these bones
when all the world is gone
Or do the words "I love you"
only mean right now?

Can we love through our pain?
Can love really save us?
Or are these the ramblings of a hopeless romantic?

Can you see my heart's tears?
Or will you only add to her obituary of Love's Lost.
Can we stop time with a kiss?
Or does it only stand still when we touch?

Can we be Love's example?
Can we shine Love's light for the world?
Or will we be another cautionary tale of love gone wrong?

If we can be all that we hope for, our love will save the world
Or at least bring hope....
